PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable compression ratio device operated without generation of a failure even if a significant difference in a sensor detecting a compression ratio is caused. SOLUTION: The variable compression ratio device A changes a compression ratio, by displacing mechanical parts 1, 2, 54, 55 to change a combustion chamber volume when a piston is at a compression top dead center. A compression ratio sensor 43 detecting the compression ratio by detecting a position or an angle of the mechanical parts, and a change mechanism changing a position or an angle of the mechanical parts based on the compression ratio detected by the compression ratio sensor. Based on an output value of the compression ratio sensor when each mechanical part is at a reference position or a reference angle, a sensor output correction value correcting the output value of the compression ratio sensor is calculated. The reference position or the reference angle is a position or an angle of each mechanical member corresponding to the compression ratio between the maximum compression ratio and the minimum compression ratio.
