PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating agent for coal which can control hygroscopicity and spontaneous ignition of coal. SOLUTION: The coating agent for coal comprises soluble component contained in an extracted solution separated by a method having an extraction process for mixing a non-hydrogen-donating solvent with raw material coal of a coating agent and extracting the soluble component of the raw material coal in the non-hydrogen-donating solvent and a solid-liquid separation process for separating the extraction residue from the extracted solution after the extraction process.
