PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prepreg excellent in operability and stability, and a fiber-reinforced composite material produced by using the prepreg, and having a high strength and a light weight, and also excellent in appearance and heat resistance. SOLUTION: This prepreg in which carbon fibers are uniformly impregnated, can be obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable composition containing a cycloolefin monomer, a ruthenium catalyst having a ligand containing a heterocyclic structure and a cross-linking agent in the presence of acrylic-based carbon fibers, wherein, close to 100% polymerization reaction is possible, since by using the specifically structured ruthenium catalyst and the acrylic-based carbon fibers, the reaction activity of the catalyst is high.
