PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die clamping device capable of securing a long die-closing stroke without requiring a fluid source of a large capacity, and of providing reliable die-clamping action. SOLUTION: The die clamping device includes: a tubular, closed cylinder 21 having an annular insertion groove 21B formed on an end face thereof; a piston 22 which is housed in the cylinder in such a manner as to move in and out to suck a high pressure fluid between the piston and the rear end face of the cylinder during a die-closing stroke, and which is caused to advance toward the end face of the piston under the pressure of the high pressure fluid when the high pressure fluid is pressurized and supplied between the piston and the rear end face of the cylinder; and a piston rod 23 having a tubular shape with a closed front end and provided with a die mounting part 23A at the front end, the piston rod being secured to the piston as its rear end is inserted into the cylinder from the insertion groove in the end face of the cylinder, and being caused to advance as the piston is caused to advance by the high pressure fluid, so as to clamp a die.
