A method of controlling operation of a communication device (300) in communication with a wireless communication network (250) is disclosed. The communication device (300) is capable of operating in an extended transfer block flow mode. The method comprises allocating one or more paging blocks (500) to the communication device for the extended transfer block flow mode, monitoring for the allocated one or more paging blocks by the communication device (300) operating in the extended transfer block flow mode and determining the operating mode of the communication device in response to receiving an allocated paging block and according to whether there is data to be communicated between the communication device (300) and the wireless communication network (250).
