A liquid crystal display for achieving picture quality stabilization and a flicker reduction and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce parasitic capacity by minimizing overlap space between a gate electrode and source/drain electrode. A gate line(101) and a data line define a pixel region by intersecting with each other. A source electrode(102a) is protruded on the gate line from data line. A drain electrode is spaced from the source electrode. In order that the overlap area of the gate line and source electrode/drain electrode is reduced, a groove is formed in the gate line. The pixel electrode is formed in the pixel region. The liquid crystal layer is filled between the first substrate and the second substrate.
