An LCD and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce the number of a sampling switching circuit and control signal and make an algorithm simple by reducing the number of data line to 1/3. M/3 Data lines(D1-Dm/3) and 3n gate lines(G1-G3n) are crossed with each other, and m and n are the natural number. A data driving circuit(110) supplies data voltage to the data lines, and A control signal generating unit(140) generates control signal(Phi1, Phi2) to control the timing of the sampling switching circuit.
