A printing apparatus, a method for controlling the printing apparatus, and a recording medium are provided to prevent stoppage of the printing apparatus due to paper feeding failure of an index paper generated due to shortage of paper set in a currently used paper feeding unit. A determination unit determines whether the amount of paper of a processing target medium remaining in the first paper feeding unit used in execution of a job reaches to a preset amount. When the amount of paper of the processing target medium remaining in the first paper feeding unit used in execution of a job reaches to the preset amount, a controller changes a paper feeding unit used in executing the job from the first paper feeding unit to the second paper feeding unit in response to determination executed by the determination unit(S1410).
