The backing sheet comprises a semipermeable continuous film 7 laminated to an apertured layer 8. The solid apertured substrate 8 is coated with a medically acceptable adhesive. Preferably the substrate 8 is a thermoplastic, especially polyethylene or polypropylene, net, or woven or nonwoven, especially spun-bonded fabric. The backing sheet is used in a gamma-ray sterilized island wound dressing, e.g., plaster, together with an absorbent or therapeutic agent containing layer (3, figure 1), and a release liner (4, 5, figure 1). The pressure sensitive adhesive 11 may be applied by spray or dip coating. |
