Driver assistance system with distance control and collision warning function

The driver assistance system has a position sensor (10), and a spacer control function (ACC) for controlling the distance to a vehicle that is driven ahead on a time gap selectable by the driver. A collision warning function (PSS) outputs a warning notice when a danger parameter determined based on the data of the position sensor considers a threshold value. The threshold value is variable based on the time gap, and the danger parameter is a function of the predetermined time up to the collision.
