A dish washer equipped with a residual water sterilizer and a control method thereof are provided to maintain clean sanitary conditions of a dish washer by sterilizing the residual water near a drainage pump of a drainpipe through electrolyzation to prevent bacteria reproduction and the generation of bad smell inside the dish washer. A dish washer equipped with a residual water sterilizer comprises a main body(100) and a residual water sterilizer(200). The main body comprises a cleaning chamber(110), a machine chamber(120), and a washing tank(130). The cleaning chamber washes the accepted tableware with the emitted water. In the machine chamber, components which operate to supply the water of the high pressure to the cleaning chamber are installed. The washing tank is located at the lower part of the cleaning chamber and collects the water used in the cleaning chamber. The washing tank ejects the gathered water to outside though a drainpipe(122a) in which a drainage pump(122) is installed inside. The residual water sterilizer is mounted on the drainpipe to be adjacent to the drainage pump. The residual water around the drainage pump is sterilized as the power source is applied.
