A filter assembly and a dish washer using the same is provided to prevent foreign material of minute particles from being flowed into an intake hole in which a circulating pump is formed inside by filtering the foreign material of minute particle through a second filter part after filtering foreign material of big particle through a first filter part. A filter assembly for a dish washer comprises a first filter part(100), a second filter part(200), and a fastening unit. The first filter part comprises a first frame(110) and a first net(120). The first frame is mounted in a horizontal direction on the top of a water collecting tank. The first frame has a shape corresponding to the shape of the water collecting tank. The first net is installed at the inner side of the first frame. The first net filters the foreign material included in the gathered water. The second filter part comprises a second frame(210) and a second net(220). The second frame is extended and formed in a vertical direction from the bottom surface of the first filter part to surround the circulating pump. The second net has smaller size than the first net. The second net is installed at the inner side of the second frame. The second net filters minute foreign materials which are not filtered in the first filter part. The first filter part and the second filter part are jointed with the fastening unit.
