A lighting device of a cleaner and a control method thereof are provided to turn on or off the lighting device automatically according to sensed result by sensing the brightness of the cleaning area through a light sensing unit. A lighting device of a cleaner comprises a luminous body, a light sensing unit(120), and a controller(160). The luminous body is equipped in the cleaner and irradiates the light. A light sensing unit is manually or automatically operated through an operation button equipped in the cleaner and is equipped in the suction unit of the cleaner and provides control input for lighting luminous body and includes cadmium sulfide and cell. According to control input which is provided by the light sensing unit, the controller selectively lights the luminous body.
