A yarn, particularly an elastic yarn, passes through an adjustable tensioning device 31 and then between a disc 14 and a roller 16 carried on a lever 18 with the device 31 and movable radially of the disc which is rotated through a hollow shaft 2 and gearing including helical gears 9, 15 disengageable by rocking about a rod 11 a bracket 12 bearing a spindle 13 carrying the gear 15 and the disc. The roller 16 is pressed by an adjustable spring 23 against the disc, which rotates at constant speed. The bracket 12 is rocked by a bell-crank lever 38 pivoted on the spindle 13 and having one arm engaged, through an adjusting screw 39, with a fixed clamp 10, whilst the other arm 37 overlies a push-rod 36 extending through the shaft 2 and operated by a control cam. One end of spring 23 bears against a rod carried on the bracket 12. This may be a rotatable rod 46 having a flat face 47 against which bears a tappet screw 48 on the lever 18, an arm 49 secured to the rod 46 engaging a push-rod 51, the other end of which engages a fixed abutment 52. Thus, as the bracket 12 rotates about the spindle 11 to disengage gears 9, 15, the rod 46 is rotated, to lift the roller 16 away from the disc 14. |
