A method and apparatus is disclosed for controlling a system comprising at least one electric motor (10). The motor drive circuit includes a reconfigurable active snubber (78). Under given resonance conditions, the active snubber (78) is configured to use a resistive element (R 1 ) to dissipate electrical transients across the commutation circuit (70).
