A method and an apparatus of preparing a catalyst for carbon nanotubes using spray pyrolysis are provided to consecutively synthesize a high purity catalyst, improve activities of carbon nanotubes, and obtain a uniform-sized catalyst. A method of preparing a catalyst for carbon nanotubes using spray pyrolysis comprises a step(S10) of supplying a plurality of raw materials, a step(S20) of mixing a plurality of the raw materials supplied in the step for 20 to 24 hours, a step(S30) of spraying the raw material mixture to a liquid state and drying the raw material mixture in the liquid state at a high temperature of 200 to 1100 deg.C to purify the raw material mixture, and a step(S40) of storing a catalyst generated by drying the raw material mixture in the step. The drying process is performed by spraying the raw material mixture into a drying furnace at a rate of 20 mL/h to 2 L/h, thereby freely dropping the raw material mixture in the drying furnace.
