A CARD READER FOR READING DATA FROM A DATA CARD

A card reader is provided for reading data from a data card. The reader includes a support and a light source mounted to the support. In one embodiment, the support is planar and opaque. The light source is configured to emit light toward the data card. A sensor is mounted to the support and is configured to sense the data being carried by reflected light from the data card. A translucent cover is mounted to the support and defines recesses in which the light source and sensor are located. A transporting mechanism is configured to transport the data card with respect to the cover. Figure: 160
