The device has a cooler including a housing (1) with an exhaust gas inlet (E) and an exhaust gas outlet (S). A heat exchanger (2) i.e. liquid cooling type heat exchanger, is arranged inside the housing. The housing has a filtration element (3) that filters non-combustible particles contained in exhaust gas and is inclined with respect to flow direction of the gas at an angle of 10-80 degrees. The element is formed of an interlaced metallic support and a metallic sieve type filtering medium. The housing has a conduit receiving the exchanger and another conduit comprising the filtration element. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine comprising an exhaust line and an exhaust gas recirculation device.
