The device (18) has longitudinal linking beams (51A, 51B, 53A, 53B) extended between rear ends (59, 65) integrated to a steering column support (17) and front ends (61, 67) located above and front of the support fixed on a chassis element (13). Each beam is deformable in case of frontal impact against a motor vehicle between a linear rest and deformed configurations. A frangible connecting cross-member (57) connects median points (74A, 74B) i.e. ends, where the cross-member is extended between the beams (51A, 51B) in a transversal direction of the vehicle.
