PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ionizer quickly and efficiently destaticizing an object to be destaticized at an arbitrary distance without complicated labor of artificially inputting the distance and realizing energy saving. SOLUTION: The ionizer that a high voltage is applied to a discharge electrode to induce corona discharge to destaticize the destaticized object with ions generated around the discharge electrode includes a distance sensor 17 measuring a distance between the discharge electrodes (for example, 25, 16) and the destaticized object A and a control unit 11 controlling voltages applied from high voltage generation circuits 12, 13 to the discharge electrodes 15, 16 according to the distance measured by the distance sensor 17. The control unit 11 controls such that the longer the distance measured by the distance sensor 17 is, the more the pulse width of a voltage pulse applied to each of the discharge electrodes 15, 16 is increased.
