PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a dust detecting function in a reading position of a white reference member, to reduce the capacitance of a memory for storing white reference data generated by reading the white reference member, to reduce circuit scale for control, and also to reduce manufacturing costs. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: a white reference member, an image sensor; and a buffer memory controller 5 for skipping, with a prescribed skipping ratio, a plurality of lines of white reference data in image data produced by scanning the white reference member using the image data, wherein the white reference data which are not skipped, and remain, are used to detect a dust existing between the white reference member and the image sensor.
