<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device provided with an electric steering lock device of light weight having large rigidity of a housing and a column receiving reaction force in steering lock and capable of enhancing telescopic clamp force. <P>SOLUTION: The housing 71 is projected from an outer column 4 to a right side in a vehicle width direction, is formed into a hollow shaped box and is a vertically symmetrical shape. Height H2 of a joint part 72 of an outer periphery 42 of the outer column 4 and the housing 71 is formed larger than an outer diameter dimension of the outer periphery 42 of the outer column 4. Accordingly, since a joint surface of the outer periphery 42 of the outer column 4 and the joint part 72 is formed over an approximately 3/4 circumference of the outer periphery 42 of the outer column 4, joint strength of the housing 71 and the outer column 4 becomes large.
