PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear actuator which is reduced in size and is inexpensive and can ensure a desired thrust force. SOLUTION: The linear actuator 1 includes a cylindrical casing 10 having a plurality of permanent magnets 14a and a plurality of permanent magnets 14b, and a spline shaft 20 which is so provided as to move relatively in the axis direction relative to the casing 10 and has a coil 40 for generating an electromagnetic force between magnetic fields formed by the permanent magnets 14a and the permanent magnets 14b.
