The roof has a compensator (30) with two cylinders (32, 52) firmly arranged at opposite sides at a movable roof part (16) and are connected with mechanics for moving the roof part by two piston rods (40, 60) movable transverse to guide rails. The cylinders have outer chambers (34, 54) and inner chambers (36, 56) separated from each other by pistons (38, 58). The inner chamber of the cylinder (32) is connected with the outer chamber of the cylinder (52) by a compensating line (48) or by a compensating reservoir arranged between the cylinders in a common tubular housing.
