The method involves injecting fuel into a combustion chamber (14) using a fuel injection device (12), and influencing a position of a valve element (22) with a pressure in a hydraulic control chamber (36) connected with a high pressure chamber (40). The pressure in the control chamber is influenced by a valve device (50) actuated by a piezoelectric actuator (58). The actuator is loaded for closing the valve device and the valve element. The closing of the valve element is detected based on the evaluation of a voltage applied on the actuator according to an actuator load. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program for executing a method for operating a fuel injection device of a fuel injection system of an internal-combustion engine (2) a controller and/or regulator for a fuel system for operating a fuel injection device of a fuel injection system of an internal-combustion engine.
