摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in a structure in which a light guide plate is divided into blocks and an LED is disposed on the longitudinal end face of each block, increases in the brightness and size of a backlight are difficult, resulting in brightness irregularity in the backlight. <P>SOLUTION: A plane light source illuminating a liquid crystal panel includes at least a light guide plate disposed on the back face of the liquid crystal panel, and a plurality of light sources disposed on the surface of light guide plate that is opposite to the liquid crystal panel. The light guide plate is divided into a plurality of blocks of which longitudinal direction is parallel with one side of the liquid crystal panel when seen from the direction normal to the liquid crystal panel. The plurality of blocks are arranged close to each other, and the light sources are disposed in the blocks in their longitudinal direction, respectively.
