PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a rectangular battery electrode plate group in which cycle time for manufacturing the electrode plate group can be shortened, and to provide a manufacturing device. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of the rectangular battery electrode plate group, the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate are alternately superimposed so that a separator is interposed between the positive and negative electrode plates 4, 5. A plurality of guide rods 6a are arranged in a zigzag state in the horizontal direction, and a continuous body 3 of a separator is inserted between the upper-stage row and the lower-stage row of this guide rod, and by making the guide rods be intersected with the rows in the vertical direction, the continuous body becomes folded in a zigzag state in the vertically undulating state. The positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate are alternately inserted into respective dent grooves 3a of this zigzag folded state, the guide rods are pulled away from respective dent grooves of the continuous body, and afterwards the continuous body is pressed toward the zigzag direction to be made flat. Since as many number of pieces of the dent grooves as necessary in one electrode plate group can be manufactured simultaneously in the continuous body of the separator, the cycle time can he shortened.
