PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a maintenance method of a liquid jetting apparatus capable of shortening a maintenance processing time by detecting that a cavity covered by a cap member is recovered from a negative pressure state to an atmospheric pressure state after a suction processing, and to provide the liquid jetting apparatus. SOLUTION: The maintenance method of the liquid jetting apparatus includes: a first process for covering the nozzle opening surface of a liquid jetting head while bringing the liquid receiving section in contact with the nozzle opening surface, and then, applying an electric field between the nozzle opening surface and the liquid receiving section; a second process for making the cavity formed between the nozzle-formed surface and the liquid receiving section in the negative pressure state, and forcibly discharging the liquid from each nozzle of the liquid jetting head toward the liquid receiving section; a third process for detecting a voltage change based on electrostatic induction when forcibly discharging the liquid toward the liquid receiving section; a fourth process for detecting the negative pressure state of the cavity based on the voltage change detection result; and a fifth process for separating the liquid receiving section from the fluid jetting head as the negative pressure state of the cavity is eliminated.
