PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation angle detector capable of accurately performing abnormality detection besides reducing computation load by suppressing the frequency of abnormality detection processing. SOLUTION: An R/D converter part 14 includes: an R/D conversion counter 115 being configured so that an n-bit count value may increase or decrease corresponding to the rotation angle of a motor generator 4 based on an output signal from a resolver 12; and an interrupt signal generating circuit 110 for generating an interrupt signal TR1 when a count value of the R/D conversion counter 115 agrees with a count value corresponding to a predetermined interrupt angle. A microcomputer part 40 performs abnormality detection processing for an R/D converter part 14 by an abnormality detection control part 140 when an interrupt signal TR1 is generated and moreover an absolute value of a reference signal Ref to excite the resolver 12 is not less than a predetermined level.
