The method involves deploying a vehicle occupant restraint system i.e. airbag, as a reaction to a precrash detection system before a collision. An effusion device of the restraint system is activated to a detected collision. A discharge opening of the effusion device is opened during control of the effusion device. Cross-section of the discharge opening is adjusted in dependence of a determined collision degree. A signal for opening discharge openings of the effusion device, in a temporally accurate relation to the detected collision, is transmitted to the restraint system by a control unit. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a vehicle occupant restraint system with an effusion device. |
