PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and low-cost surface mounting crystal oscillator, a container body of which has a large inside bottom. SOLUTION: The crystal oscillator for surface mounting has the container body 1, constituted of a bottom wall 1a, a frame wall 1b and a recessed layered ceramic that has an inside wall step, an IC chip 2; the IC terminal of which is fixed to a circuit terminal 6, provided on the inside bottom of the container main body 1; and a crystal piece 3, both sides of one edge of which have an extraction electrode, extending from an excitation electrode and are fixed to a crystal-holding terminal 5, provided on the surface of the inside wall step which is provided at one edge of the container body 1. A crystal circuit terminal 6a which is connected to a crystal terminal of the IC terminal in the circuit terminal 6 has a structure, where a conductive path 6x on the inside bottom extends from the crystal circuit terminal 6a, which is nearest the inside wall step to the wall; and the crystal holding terminal 5 and both sides of one edge of the crystal piece 3 are electrically connected through a conductive adhesive 11 in the crystal oscillator for surface mounting which is arranged so as to be nearest the inside wall step.
