PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a surveying device to rapidly return to a state capable of tracking a target when the surveying device misses the target, and the tracking is suspended. SOLUTION: This surveying system comprises a surveying device 1 having a function for tracking a target 13, and a remote control device 16 remotely operating the surveying device on the target side. The surveying device has a measuring part 21, an image pickup part 23, a first radio part 33, and a first control arithmetic part 29. The remote control device has a second radio part 37, a second control arithmetic part 35, a second display part 18 and a second operation input part 20. The first control arithmetic part transmits measurement data of the measuring part to the remote control device via the first radio part when a detection result is within the tracking range based on the detection result of a reflection light from the target, and transmits image data taken by the image pickup part via the first radio part when the detection result is out of the tracking range, the second control arithmetic part receives the measurement data and the image data via the second radio part, and the measurement data or the image data are displayed on the second display part.
