PROCESS OF COATING ELECTRICAL STEEL

A coating process for electrical steel using a core sheet varnish composition, comprising the steps of a) applying at least one coating layer of a core sheet varnish composition onto the surface of the electrical steel the core sheet varnish composition comprising (A) 5 to 95 wt% of at least one resin with nucleophilic groups selected from the group consisting of OH, NHR, SH, carboxylate and CH-acidic groups, (B) 0 to 70 wt% of at least one amide group-containing resin and (C) 5 to 95 wt% of at least one organic solvent and/or water, wherein the resins of component (A) and/or of component (B) contain a-carboxy-ß-oxocycloalkyl carboxylic acid amide groups, the wt% based on the total weight of the coating composition, and b) curing the applied coating layer. The process provides excellent adhesion and excellent corrosion resistance of the coatings as well as a high property profile standard combining different technical requirements.
