CO-enriched gas (58) is condensed (E5) with liquid nitrogen (if it cannot be taken off as part of a gas product (54)) and kept in an intermediate CO-storage tank (V) from which it can be taken off as a liquid (61) when required, evaporated in an evaporator (E6) and added to a gas product (64). The method gives oxo gas with a H 2/CO mol ratio of 1.5-0.66, preferably 1.Preferred Apparatus: The scrubber (T5) is in the form of a scrubbing column with packing and/or substance-exchange trays; the cooled mixture (3) is fed into the bottom of T5 and the first, H 2-rich gas is taken from the top. A phase separator may be fitted before the scrubber (T5), or the lower part of (T5) may be designed as a phase separator, in which the cooled mixture (3) is separated into H 2-rich gas and CO-rich liquid. There is also an intermediate storage system for CO of product purity (58), with two heat exchangers (E5, E6) and a thermally-insulated CO storage tank (V).
