Driving of a CCD type solid-state imaging element (CCD) is controlled to stop for a time from reception of a signal relating to imaging start to reception of an external trigger, in the case where the external trigger is received as a prescribed signal after receiving the signal relating to imaging start, and driving of the CCD is controlled to start in synchronization with the reception of the external trigger. Thus, a time in which the CCD is driven is shortened by a time from the reception of the signal relating to imaging start to the reception of the external trigger without starting to drive the CCD immediately after receiving the signal relating to imaging start, and heat generated by the CCD is suppressed.
