The particle sensor is periodically and alternatively operated in collecting phases and in measuring phases during the measuring interval. Different voltages and/or voltage forms are applied to the electrodes during the collecting phases and the measuring phases. The sensor is operated with direct current voltage in the collecting phases. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Method for operating a particle i.e. soot particle, sensor for determining soot particle content in an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine (claimed) i.e. diesel engine, monitoring carbon-particulate emission of the combustion engine and function of particulate filters, in a motor vehicle workshop for monitoring exhaust gas limit value in exhaust gas flow of a heating system or for pollution measurements. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The particle sensor is periodically and alternatively operated in collecting phases and in measuring phases during the measuring interval, and the different voltages and/or voltage forms are applied to the electrodes during the collecting phases and the measuring phases, thus allowing accurate determination of particle accretion on the particle sensor in optimized conditions for depositing the particle from the exhaust gas flow to the particle sensor.
