PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a data processing speed of an internal CPU and to provide a PLC capable of a high speed operation even when there are various formats of communication data with an external device. SOLUTION: This data transmission/reception system is the data transmission/reception processing system with the external device in a CPU 3 in the PLC 1 comprising the CPU 3 for processing data by a binary type format (internal format), a program memory 7 for storing a sequence program executed by the CPU 3, and an internal memory 9 used for storing the data or the like to be handled when executing the sequence program by the CPU. The CPU 3 performs storage and read processing of the data in the internal memory 9 by the internal format, converts the format of the data to the internal format and stores them in the internal memory when receiving the data of an external format from the external device, and converts the read data to the external format and transmits them to the external device when the data stored in the internal memory are to be read and transmitted to the external device.
