PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device and an image display that can produce a high contrast and high quality image in scanning light from the light source device. SOLUTION: A semiconductor laser 11 as the light source device for collimating light emitted from a laser chip 12 as a light source part by means of a collimator optical system 16 has an aperture member 13 disposed on the optical path of the light emitted from the light source part to allow a part of the light emitted from the light source part to pass through an opening and block the light other than the light entering the opening.
