PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a robust expansion joint for a road bridge, which exerts high water sealability for preventing water leakage from a joint section of the road bridge. SOLUTION: A sealing plate 5 is laid between top surfaces of both vertical plates 4 facing each other with an expansion gap in between; both side portions thereof are held on the backsides of both the vertical plates 4, respectively. On each of both the vertical plates 4, a face plate 7 is detachably installed on a base plate 6, overhanging to a back portion, without the intermediary of the side portion of the sealing plate 5 by means of a bolt, so that an expansion gap side edge of the face plate 7 can cover a part, laid on the top surface of the vertical plate, of the sealing plate 5.
