PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition exhibiting significantly improved initial adhesiveness and adhesiveness after ageing to a metal reinforcing material such as a steel cord. SOLUTION: The rubber composition is prepared by compounding sulfur (B), a cobalt salt of an organic aid (C), and particulate zinc white (D) having a particle diameter of from 10 nm to 250 nm into a rubber component (A). Preferably, the rubber composition is prepared by compounding 100 parts by mass of the rubber component (A) with 1 to 10 parts by mass of the sulfur (B), 0.03 to 1 part by mass of the cobalt salt of an organic acid (C) and 2 to 15 parts by mass of the particulate zinc white (D).
