PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide short peptides that contain phenylalanine, leucine, alanine, and lysine residues, and show bioactivity. SOLUTION: The peptides include phenylalanine, leucine, alanine, and lysine residues and are isolated peptides of about a 5 to about 23 amino acid length. These peptides have the minimum length of about 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, or about 18 amino acids, while the maximum length may be about 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, or about 23 amino acids. The peptides are essentially constituted with phenylalanine, leucine, alanine, and lysine residues. These peptides can be used for antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer and other biological uses.
