PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect double feeding, even if a conveying condition is different according to the kind of a medium. SOLUTION: This medium conveying device SU is provided with: a thickness detection device 6 for detecting thickness of the medium S conveyed in conveying passages 1 and SH1; a medium kind acquisition means C5 for acquiring the kind of the medium S; extraction condition setting means (C7a, C7b, C7c, C7d, C7a', C7b', C7c' and C7d') for setting signal extraction conditions Ta, Tc, tc1', tc2', Nc1 and Nc2 to be conditions for extracting an output signal output from the thickness detection device 6 based on the kind of the medium S acquired by the medium kind acquisition means C5; and a double feeding discrimination means C16 for discriminating whether or not a plurality of media S are conveyed in overlapped states by detecting the thickness of the media S based on the extracted output signal.
