A method for producing an electrode having immobilized pi-conjugated ligands is provided. The method includes bringing an aqueous solution into contact with an electrically conductive base material, the aqueous solution including pi-conjugated ligands and at least one of (i) a surfactant, and (ii) a water-soluble molecule having a structure different from that of the pi-conjugated ligands, the water-soluble molecule having a pi-conjugated structure, and immobilizing the pi-conjugated ligands on the base material.
