The present invention relates to a planar façade element or similar surface element, which can be installed in prefabricated form to a structure (1) by way of corresponding installation means to form a façade (2) or similar wall or ceiling surface (3), comprising a planar carrier element (6), and a, particularly waterproof, cover layer (8), which is or can be disposed on at least one front (9) of the carrier element (6), wherein an edge protection profile (10) is provided, which is cast on at least one front (11) of the carrier element (6) in a statically effective manner and is configured such that the cover layer (8) is connected to the edge protection profile (10), or can be connected to the same, in a watertight connection. The invention further relates to a method for the production of such a façade element. The invention further relates to a façade system or similar wall or ceiling system, comprising at least two planar façade elements of the type mentioned above, which can be installed on a structure (1) adjacent to each other to form a façade (2) or similar wall or ceiling surface (3), wherein the edge protection profiles (10) cast at least on the fronts (11) of the two carrier elements (6) facing each other are connected to each other by means of an adhesive bond (26).
