An elevating system is provided for installation on a staircase, comprisin g a plurality of lifting elements capable of vertical expansion and contractio n between lowered and elevated positions to sequentially elevate or lower a user. Each lifting element comprises a platform, inflatable bladders to selectivel y elevate or lower the platform, a guide to prevent lateral movement of said platform, a sensor responsive to the presence of an individual on said platform, and valves to selectively inflate or deflate said bladders. The platforms ar e sequentially elevated or depressed to permit the user to travel up or down said staircase by stepping horizontally from one lifting element to a next in lin e lifting element. |
