APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR USE IN FIRING CORE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which has the advantage of restraining scatter of outside dimensions of a core caused by the deformation of a core setter during firing and which is advantageously used in firing a ceramic casting core shaped like a thin complicated airfoil used to manufacture a hollow airfoil-shaped casting such as a turbine blade and a turbine vane.

SOLUTION: The invented apparatus for use in firing the ceramic casting core comprises a sagger, and a core setter insert placed in the sagger. The sore setter insert can be put on a refractory particulate grog bed or a support body on the bottom wall of the sagger. The core setter insert has a core receiving surface which may be airfoil-shaped to receive the airfoil-shaped ceramic casting core used for manufacturing the hollow airfoil casting.
