PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and accurately inspect an appearance of a shiny metallic bar-shaped workpiece. SOLUTION: A device for inspecting the appearance of a metallic bar-shaped workpiece, includes an illumination unit Re for irradiating the metallic bar-shaped workpiece C with illumination in a conveyance process by a first and second indexers ID1, ID2, and imaging units S1 to S6 for imaging the bar-shaped workpiece, in which a method of inspecting has the steps of containing half of the peripheral surface of the bar-shaped workpiece C, that is exposed in a peripheral groove v1 formed on the periphery of the first rotation indexer ID1; containing the remaining peripheral surface of the bar-shaped workpiece C that is exposed in a peripheral groove v2, formed on the periphery of the second rotation indexer ID2; arranging the illumination unit Re, as an arcuate illumination unit in which a plurality of light sources are arranged so as to surround the exposed surface of the bar-shaped workpiece; and imaging the bar-shaped workpiece C that is contained in the peripheral v1 (v2) by the imaging units S1 to S6 via the illumination by this arcuate illumination unit Re.
