PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil separator substantially improving a separating capacity of lubricating oil by lowering a flow velocity of coolant gas discharged from a compressor and flowing into the oil separator. SOLUTION: The oil separator is equipped with a container 102 of a predetermined capacity, a baffle plate 110 installed in the container 102, an inlet pipe 104 advancing into the container 102 downward discharging a coolant and the lubricating oil discharged from a compressor (a rotary compressor 10) toward a lower face of the baffle plate 110, an outlet pipe 106 communicated with a container 102 above the baffle plate 110, and an oil return pipe 108 communicated with the container 102 interior in a container 102 lower part. In the baffle plate 110, an upper end is blocked, a lower rim broadened from the upper end abuts on a container 102 inner face, and a communication part 114 communicating container 102 interiors above and below the baffle plate 110 is formed between a lower rim of the baffle plate 110 and the container 102 inner face other than an abutting point P of the baffle plate 110 and the container 102 inner face.
