PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environmentally friendly and low cost oil adsorbent which has an excellent oil adsorption ability that quickly adsorbs oil spilled on the water surface, oil spilled during transportation or storage on the ground, or oil spilled at a working site or the like, can cope with high concentration oil-contaminated wastewater, has performance durable for a long-term use, and can achieve zero emission. SOLUTION: The oil adsorbent for oil-contaminated wastewater is a carbon material obtained by calcining raw coke, has a half width of 50-70 cm<SP>-1</SP>of a peak at around 1,600 cm<SP>-1</SP>measured by Ar laser Raman spectroscopy, has a peak strength ratio of a peak at around 1,350 cm<SP>-1</SP>to a peak at around 1,600 cm<SP>-1</SP>of 0.7-1.2.
