PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and a document reader which are capable of improving workability in maintenance or a development stage for a drive motor for driving a conveying mechanism. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus and the document reader, when a maintenance mode is selected, a drive voltage supplied to a stepping motor 34 for driving the conveying mechanism (a recording paper conveying mechanism or a document conveying mechanism) is set and the set drive voltage is supplied to the stepping motor 34 from a drive voltage supplying section 30a. Thus, the drive voltage of the stepping motor 34 can be easily set without performing such a work that an external power supply is connected to the stepping motor 34, to adjust the drive voltage.
